The Guilford County Board of Education ranked architects and construction management at risk firms Tuesday for projects included in the 2008 school bond referendum. This authorizes the district to enter into negotiations with selected firms.
The board’s Architect Selection Committee heard presentations from each of the architects and firms and developed recommendations. The board also approved for staff to enter into negotiations with New Atlantic Contracting to provide Construction Management at Risk services for the Special Education Center West project.
The process for selection of design teams, including architects and engineers, for the bond projects began with a Request for Proposals (RFQ) last year. GCS received proposals from 50 architectural and engineering firms and 20 construction management at risk firms interested in working with the district on one or more of the bond projects. Each of the proposals provided extensive information about the firms’ qualifications, experience and capabilities to design and construct school buildings.
District staff members now begin the process of negotiating contracts with the firms that were selected Tuesday and hope to move forward with the design and construction process within four to six weeks.
The most recent rankings are the second group of architects and firms selected for the bond projects. The previously approved architects are currently under contract and are in the midst of their design for the projects positioned at the top of the board’s priority list.
