Guilford County Schools (GCS) confirmed Thursday that a student from Gibsonville Elementary has H1N1, also known as swine flu. A letter and factsheet with information about the virus went home with all students at Gibsonville.
The student is currently at home and not attending school. Both the student and close contacts are currently being treated with anti-viral medications. The school is taking all precautionary measures, including thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing all touch surfaces.
The Guilford County Department of Public Health is continuing to encourage everyone to practice good personal hygiene, which includes thorough hand washing, use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers and coughing/sneezing into a tissue or bended elbow. The health department also strongly recommends that individuals stay at home when sick and stay away from others.
