American Express Recognizes Allen Jay Elementary Volunteer

Paul Farrar acts as a grandfather to nearly 500 children at the school

Contact: Lillian M. Govus (336) 370-8997
Created: 10/6/2009 9:39:38 AM

Although Paul Farrar’s grandchildren no longer attend Allen Jay Elementary, he continues to dedicate his time to the school, and the students know they can count on “Mister Paul” to read to them, be their lunch buddy or simply be a kind and gentle person to confide in. He extends that level of caring to the staff, too, and when they see him walking the three blocks from his house to the school to volunteer, they know they’re in for a special treat that day.

As Volunteer of the Month, American Express officials surprised Farrar with a gift bag and $25 gift card. In addition, the Board of Education will recognize Farrar tonight at its meeting. Farrar’s photo will hang at Allen Jay, as well as the district’s central offices.

Know a volunteer who goes above and beyond? Nominate him or her to be the next GCS Volunteer of the Month by clicking on the link below.
