Hundreds of Guilford County Schools (GCS) students will be performing in the All-County High School Chorus at Grimsley High on Saturday. The chorus showcases talent from across the district – students from 14 high schools are participating.
Students were selected for the chorus through auditions held at their individual high schools. Music teachers worked with chorus students during the past month to teach the song selections that will be performed. The All-County chorus will rehearse in a workshop with guest clinicians on Friday and Saturday, and their hard work will culminate in a performance for the public at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The guest clinicians for the chorus are Kelly Turner, a music professor at the University of Houston, and Marshall Butler, a choral music teacher at Sanderson High School in Wake County. Students will sing a broad selection of songs, including “No Rocks A-Cryin’” by Rollo Dilworth, “Glorificamus Te” by Eugene Butler, “Vamuvamba” by Boniface Mganga and “Hello Girls” by Lloyd Pfautsch.
The district organizes All-County events throughout the school year to showcase student talent and provide additional opportunities in the musical arts. All-County orchestra, band, elementary and middle school chorus concerts are scheduled through the spring.
