Rodney Boone, the founding principal of The Academy at Lincoln, has been named the 2009-10 Guilford County Schools (GCS) Magnet Principal of the Year.

A committee selected Boone based on his magnet school experience and efforts to support a diverse school with a specialized curriculum.

Magnet Schools of America (MSA) provides leadership for innovative instructional programs that promote equity, diversity and academic excellence for all students in public school choice programs. Each year, MSA hosts a Principal of the Year award, which recognizes an outstanding school leader who has succeeded in providing innovative programs that promote equity, diversity and academic excellence for students in magnet schools.

The Academy at Lincoln opened its doors in March 2005. Since then, Boone and his staff have developed and implemented Performing Arts, Global Studies and Very Strong Needs (VSN) Advanced Learning curricula; modeled effective teaching strategies; organized and facilitated Marzano Training to improve instruction and student achievement and collaborated to improve time management and classroom instruction.

Boone has been principal at Lincoln since March 2005. Boone also served as assistant principal at Northwest High. In 1994, he received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education from North Carolina A&T State University. He earned a master’s degree in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2004. Boone is also National Board-certified, which he achieved in 2000.
