GCS Math Scores Jump in 2008
In yet another sign that Guilford County Schools (GCS) is on the right track academically, the district’s regular multiple-choice End-of-Grade (EOG) math scores increased for the 2007-08 school year, according to recently released preliminary data.
GCS recorded across-the-board increases in grades three through eight, according to the data. In all, 71.8 percent of GCS students scored proficiently, up 4.5 percent from the previous year. Of all the students taking the examination, African-Americans made the greatest progress, scoring a 6.5 percent increase over the previous year.
“At GCS, we are pleased to learn that math EOG scores increased from last year,” said Dr. Eric Becoats, co-interim superintendent. “The increase is due to a team effort from students, teachers, administrators and parents who should be commended for their hard work and dedication.”
This data is only preliminary. GCS officials will further analyze the numbers when all the data from the regular math multiple-choice tests is available.
