The Guilford County Board of Education authorizes the Superintendent to delay opening, to close early or to cancel school if prevailing or potential hazards threaten the safety and well-being of pupils and employees.

The Superintendent also is authorized to delay opening, to close early or to cancel school when extreme weather conditions (e.g., heat-cold) seriously impair or threaten to impair the learning process or the safety and well-being of pupils and employees.

In case of delayed opening and/or early dismissal of schools because of hazardous travel conditions, the Superintendent is directed to establish procedures for delayed arrival and early departure of employees.
