Metals Technology Curriculum Highlights

In the College Tech Prep Metals Technology course, students work with the same Computer Assisted Design and Computer Numerical Control processes used in today's manufacturing and engineering businesses. Three dimensional computer images display designs which are sent to milling machines to duplicate the parts.  These computer controlled  milling machines create precision cuts within the exact tolerance, time after time.

Students who take and pass National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) tests, will receive nationally recognized credentials.

NIMS credentials may also give students advanced placement credit at Guilford Technical Community College.

Most entry level jobs in this area require highly specialized technical skills learned through adult apprenticeship or in a metals technology associate degree program. A journeyman metalworker can begin at salaries ranging from $20,000 to $30,000.00 per year.

Manufacturing, industrial, and design engineers all play a role in the metals industry. A minimum of a four-year degree is required for this field and the average   salary is around $50,000.00 per year.
