Jump Start Reading (Trained Adult Tutors)

Through the partnership of Communities in Schools of High Point, the High Point Chamber of Commerce, the Community Foundation of High Point, United Way of High Point and Guilford County Schools, over three hundred community volunteers were recruited and trained to serve as tutors for students in the High Point community. Fourth and fifth graders in twelve elementary schools received tutoring in reading and writing to them raise their level of achievement in these subjects. All tutors participated in a three-hour training session in which they were provided materials and strategies that enable them to work effectively with students. Both the students and tutors responded very positively to this experience. If you would like additional information, please call Communities in Schools of High Point @ (336) 883-6434.
