Project Math

Project Math is funded by the ABC Innovative Challenge Grant. The specific objective of this grant is to raise the number of students "on grade level" as noted by the number of students scoring a Level III/IV on the North Carolina end-of-grade math test.

Project Math places a computerized math center in fifth grade classrooms of targeted impacted schools. Each math center consists of the following components:

1. One desktop computer per 5-6 students

2. One networked inkjet color printer

3. Appropriate furniture for the computers

4. One large screen TV/monitor with Averkey and mobile TV cart

5. Teacher Selected Software that addresses student achievement in math:

Orchard Trees, Math Twister, Math Keys Unlocking Whole Numbers, Math Mysteries and Mighty Math

Students in these classrooms are provided opportunities to use the technology provided by Project Math 15-20 minutes each day. Project Math will be placed in approximately 30 fifth grade classrooms during the 2000-2001 school year.
