The Enrichment Region held the last of three town hall meetings last night. We held one in each of the three attendance zones in our region. Last night’s meeting at Memorial United Methodist Church in High Point was a success. Parents, staff and students in attendance learned more about me and the vision for the Enrichment region and asked questions.
Although the town hall meetings have ended, that doesn’t mean I have stopped listening to the needs of our community. Throughout the year, I will continue to be out in our schools, meeting with principals, teachers, students and parents. The door to the Enrichment Region office is always open. If you have a question or a concern, please let me know so I can help you. I can be reached at 433-7192.
October 15, 2009 – Original Song by Smith High Students Wins Contest Last week, we were excited to learn that an original song written by Smith High students will be one of 12 songs featured on a CD compiled by the N.C. Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The song was chosen from more than 500 entries in a contest held last January.
The CD will be distributed to schools across North Carolina later this year. The purpose is to empower schools, communities and students on ways to prevent bulling and other school violence.
I am so proud of these students, who are members of Smith’s Music Club. They worked together to write the song, titled “Sing with Me, I’m Bully Free.” After editing and practicing, the song was recorded in a makeshift studio in one of Smith’s classrooms.
Please join me in congratulating Ykhoa Hdok, Jimmy Nguyen, Amber Baldwin and Jacques Baird for their hard work and creativity.
