Achieving Education Excellence

September 28, 2009 Congratulations to the Western Region!

Monday night was a wonderful celebration for our schools, teachers and principals. Celebrating Excellence in Education recognized the best and brightest, and the Western Region is so proud of everyone’s accomplishments.

The 2009-10 Teacher of the Year hails from the Western Region! Terri Roberts of Southwest Elementary earned the prestigious honor. Celebrating Excellence in Education also recognized the district’s 16 most improved schools. Included in this group were Kirkman Park Elementary, Ferndale Middle and Southwest High.

Please help me in congratulating all the winners from the Western Region, and keep up the great work!

August 26, 2009 - A Successful First Day

It’s hard to believe that the 2009-10 school year has arrived. I couldn’t be more excited for the new year, and I hope you are as well.

I’m extremely proud of our Western Region. Of course there were first-day jitters, but on my visits today, I saw students, teachers and support staff eager to begin again. I am confident that our region will continue to work together to help support our students and parents ease into 2009-10.

We have a lot to look forward to, and I encourage everyone to challenge, encourage and support our students as they continue to achieve success. We have 24 diverse schools to highlight, and we will be doing that in a number of ways including this blog and on our Western Region Web site.

I will continue to visit our schools as well as area organizations throughout the community.

The support and partnerships of community, business and faith organizations are so important for our schools. Your resources are invaluable to students and teachers, and I hope we can increase our connections.

As we move into the new school year, remember our regional office is a resource to use when you have questions, concerns or wish to share an idea. My regional staff and I will assist you with your needs, whether small or large.

Thank you again for a successful first day of school. We couldn’t have done it without your help.

August 3, 2009 - Welcome to the Western Region

The Western Region is preparing to kick off the 2009-10 school year, and I’m certainly looking forward to meeting parents, students, teachers, staff and community members. I hope you will find that the regional office becomes a place where you can go to get quicker answers to your questions, while receiving top-notch service.

Parents may visit our regional office at 900 English Road in High Point. Here, you may receive information about school operational services related to academics, discipline, transportation, facilities, finance, technology, health and safety and some elements of exceptional children services.

In the upcoming weeks, I will share my goals with you for the Western region, and certainly one of the goals is to create a stronger sense of community in our region, while streamlining communication between our elementary, middle and high schools. I want to continue the district’s open communication in our region and encourage you to ask questions.

I’m excited to introduce our Western Regional staff to you. They have been working hard all summer!
The Western Regional staff includes:

  • Sandra Culmer, Executive Director
  • Lillie Tucker, Formative Assessment Coach
  • Charlisa Hall, Instructional Technology Coach
  • Brian McCain, Student Services Administrator
  • Vivian Lane and Cindy Kernodle, Office Support to Regional Office

Our schools, employees and students have achieved a great deal, and I’m excited to help celebrate the Western Region’s accomplishments this school year!
