August 25, 2009 - Kicking Off 2009-10

The new school year is upon us as most students started school today. It’s a wonderful sight to see students and teachers filling our schools again. From my visits this morning, I could see the excitement on their faces and could sense their anticipation of what the school year will bring.

The start of school signifies new beginnings for students. For the district, we will begin to build upon our successes from last year. We made a lot of progress in 2008-09, but we still have a lot of work to do.

This year, the district will embark on several major strategic plan initiatives, including our regionalization. With the launch of our regions, we are transitioning to an organization that is more open and responsive. If you have questions, we want to provide answers more efficiently. Our regions are here to serve our parents and communities.

I hope this school year brings new partnerships and relationships for our schools. Now, more than ever, we need you to help maximize our students’ success. Your time and your talents are truly invaluable to our children.

I look forward to working with you all this year. Together, we will work toward our goal of achieving educational excellence for each and every child in Guilford County Schools.
