Good evening, Brightwood Family. This is Principal Stokes! I just want to take this time to welcome you all to another amazing week at Brightwood Elementary School.

Please remember that our doors open at 7:00 am for students to enter. Our tardy bell will ring at 7:25 am. Staff will be leaving the car rider line once the tardy bell rings. You will then need to walk your scholar to the door so that we can sign them in. Our instructional day ends at 2:10 pm daily. We will begin dismissing at 2:13 pm. If you need you need to pick your child up early for appointments and/or an emergency, you will need to pick them up before 1:45 pm. Please be sure to have your state-issued ID with you when picking your child up early. When you pick your child up early daily, they are missing instructional minutes that they cannot get back.

Please be sure contact your scholar’s teacher with any academic questions and/or concerns because our first quarter ends on October 22. We are beginning to schedule parent-teacher conferences to discuss students' first quarter progress.

This week is a busy week for our school and scholars. On Tuesday, October 19th, our 4th grade students will be taking the CogAT assessment, and 3rd grade students will be taking their first quarter math interim assessment. We will also have some 4th grade students taking their 4th grade Read to Achieve Assessment on Thursday.

This week, we are Celebrating Unity Day on Wednesday and wearing orange as we unite against bullying. This Friday, we are going to host our first Title One Night Trunk a Treat Drive Through from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. During the drive through, we will be following all safety protocols. Prior to the drive through, I will be sharing valuable information with all parents about our Title One Plan and our vision for the school year. We will also kick off our Red Ribbon Week Celebration on this Friday, so we are asking students on Friday to dress as their favorite book character. Please make sure that their outfit will still allow them to be able to safely wear their protective mask.

All students and staff members are expected to wear their mask when they are in school. We must remember the importance and purpose of wearing our mask. Please make sure that your child has a mask daily. As a learning community, we are practicing the 3 W's -- Wait, Wear, and Wash, daily.

Parents, please remember, if your child is feeling sick, please do not send them to school. Please be sure to contact the school as soon as possible. If your child is out sick with any COVID-like symptoms, he/she will need a doctor’s note to return noting that his/her symptoms are not COVID-related. If your child is exposed to a positive COVID case and/or tests positive for COVID-19, you must contact the school as soon as possible. We have a process in place to decrease the loss of instructional time for your student during that time, but we must be notified.

We greatly appreciate your support as we continuously work to provide an excellent education every day to each of our Brightwood Tiger Scholars this school year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the school or send us a message on ClassDojo. Thank you for all that you do, and have a great evening. Remember you are amazing!
