Welcome! I am so glad you are here! My name is Mrs. Hand and this is my fourth year teaching at Montlieu, my fifth year teaching, and my second year teaching first grade! I have been married for five years and have two children- a son named Luke who is four years old and a daughter named Eliza who will be one in January. I enjoy all things related to the ocean, as you will probably see in my classroom! I really love children and seeing their "Ah-ha!" moment when they learn something new! 

First grade is so important because it is when students really become better readers. We focus a lot less on individual letter sounds and move on to sounds groups of letters make and blending larger words. Students must grow about six reading levels this year so we really focus on reading!

All of Guilford County is utilizing a new math curriculum this year: Eureka Math. This curriculum focuses on seeing numbers as parts and wholes. There are free resources available to parents at greatminds.org. If you have any questions, please ask!
