Virtual Library Media Center
News from the November 1 GeVA Newsletter:
Asynchronous media lessons will continue in the second quarter.
Ms. Brown and I will be offering Minecraft Mondays once a month. Your eScholar will be invited to participate based on goals set by the homeroom teacher.
Ms. Green and I will be offering a STEM Book Club for grades 3-5. Participants will read The Hippo at the End of the Hall and participate in STEM challenges. If you are interested, fill out the interest form linked here.
Also, Guilford County Schools is offering us a special Code Club program through EdFarm.org. Code Club meets on Wednesdays at 3pm through Zoom. The activities are based on Swift Playgrounds, which is an Apple app, so it works best for students with access to an iPad or MacBook. Just click on the link to join. (The link can also be found on the Media Center page of the GeVA website.)
This week I will be offering an optional live read aloud on Friday at 3pm. I hope my schedule will settle down enough to make that our regular read-aloud time. I'll keep my Canvas homepage updated.
If your eScholar hasn't signed up for access to the Guilford eLearning Virtual Academy Library Media Program Canvas site, the self-enroll link is here. It's important to sign up to have access to all of the great online resources available to your eScholar.
November is Picture Book Month and we'll have special guest readers every Tuesday evening in November. More details are in the Upcoming Events section below.
Thank you for a great 1st Quarter and I look forward to seeing more of your eScholars in the 2nd Quarter!

I am very pleased and excited to be your School Library Media Coordinator. That's my official title, but you can call me the Librarian or the Book Lady or whatever feels right to you! Just make sure you call on me when you need help with technology and media. Media includes anything you might use for your learning or enjoyment: books, videos, computer games, web sites. I hope we'll be able to create some media this year, too!
I have been a librarian since 1993. Most of that time was in NC school libraries. I love the way my job constantly challenges me to learn new things and grow. I really believe you're never too old to learn new things. That's why I took piano lessons at the age of 43!
I became a school librarian because I believe that our society is best served when everyone has the knowledge and skills to achieve their dreams. I will support you in every way I can.
My office hours are M-F 7:30 am-8:00 am. Please email me or text me (336.525.9916) any time for assistance. Please leave as detailed a message as possible and/or send me screen shots so that I can be prepared to assist you when I return your call or email.
