Welcome to the Early Learning Department
The Department of Early Learning serves over 1500 children ages 3 through 5 in Guilford County. Our programs include both NC Pre-K/Title 1 classrooms, Exceptional Children's classrooms, and itinerant services for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in the Guilford County community.
2023-2024 NC Pre-K Application Information
Applications for all Guilford County Schools, Guilford Child Development Head Start and Private Child Care sites are accepted all school year.
This application is for children who will be four years old on or before August 31, 2023.
Applying for 2023-2024 NC Pre-K slots at Guilford County Schools?
The deadline to apply for “first round” NC Pre-K classroom placement with Guilford County Schools is Friday, April 28th. Applications are available on the Guilford Partnership for Children's website at: https://www.guilfordchildren.org/nc-pre-k. At the beginning of the NCPK application, you will have to select the year you are applying for, under the drop down menu, at the top of page 1: *Year Applying For / Año de Solicitud* Please select 2022-2023 for the school year ending in June 2023 or 2023-24 for the School year starting in August 2023.

The Guilford County School's Pre-k office is open to the public to answer any questions and assist with the completion of the application process, but we do not accept applications at our location. The Guilford Partnership for Children accepts and processes ALL NCPK applications. Their office is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9am -4pm. They have a drop box at their office that can be used anytime between the hours of 8am- 5pm.

What is NC Pre-K?
NC Pre-K is high-quality preschool for vulnerable children aged 4. The purpose is to provide
engaging and nurturing early learning experiences to ensure longer term success in school.
There are classes offered within Guilford County Schools, the Head Start program at Guilford
Child Development, and private childcare centers. Transportation and/or extended care options are not offered by GCS; and available at some, but not all other sites.
Who is eligible for NC Pre-K?
Children who will be four years old on or before August 31, 2022 for the school year 2022-23 or Children who will be four years old on or before August 31, 2023 for the school year 2023-24 . Priority is given to children
who have not had prior preschool experience, may be economically disadvantaged, or have a
developmental delay. Slots are limited, and we encourage you to apply in early Spring.
Before you begin the application process...
We recommend that you have all the required information and documentation prepared
BEFORE you begin the application process. Once you have the documentation needed to apply, it is easiest to complete the online application using a computer or your smart phone.
What You Will Need:
1. Proof of Birth (copy of birth certificate OR medical records OR immunization records)
2. Proof of Residency (copy of current utility bill OR rental agreement)
• Documentation must have the same physical address listed on the application.
3. Proof of Income (copy of 2022 1040 OR 2022 W-2 OR 4 recent, consecutive paystubs)
• Additional income, if applicable, such as court-ordered child support,
unemployment benefits, workers compensation, and/or SSA/SSI/SSDI.
4. If Applicable – Documentation of chronic health condition, parent’s military service,
development or educational needs, and/or Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
