Teaching high school students is an exciting career change for me. I have worked as a Registered Nurse for over thirty years. I have worked in a nursing home and ICU/ED but much of my career has been in oncology. I administered chemotherapy and worked in radiation oncology. Locally, I managed a breast cancer program for nearly a decade. Most recently, I worked from home as a Nurse Health Coach for an insurance company. I am excited to be able to share my professional experiences working in the medical field with our future generation of health care professionals. Education has been the mainstay of my career. I am passionate about empowering people with knowledge whether it was direct patient/family education, community events, facilitating a cancer survivorship program or offering continuing education for my colleagues. I am a lover of lifelong learning.
Personally, I have five adult children in a blended family. My husband and I blended families with four teenagers, so I have experienced challenges and triumphs with this age group. We have one sweet granddaughter, who will be starting kindergarten next year. We have two dogs that I love to go walking/hiking with on the beautiful trails in Greensboro.
I have a love for the outdoors and spend as much time as I can outside. I am also an American Canoe Association (ACA) L3 coastal kayak instructor. I am currently teaching a kayak camping progression program because I love to empower others, who also enjoy the outdoors.
And purple is my favorite color, so I think I was meant to be a Nighthawk!
I look forward to working hard with my students preparing for their career or college in the medical field.
