Communications
-
From teachers to students, principals to parents, district leadership to all employees, local and national media to our community members – communication is key. It’s one of our top priorities in Guilford County Schools, and we are committed to ensuring the best communication possible across the district.
Our small but highly skilled communications team works with employees, our families, media and partners to keep everyone informed and up-to-date about GCS news, initiatives and events. Your voice counts in GCS, and we want to hear from you on a regular basis, so we support engagement strategies like Let’s Talk ®, which gets you answers to your questions in 48 hours or less, as well as online surveys, advisory groups and councils, and project teams and committees.
We also answer hundreds of calls from reporters each year, conduct annual parent and community public opinion polls to measure our effectiveness, manage special events, recruit volunteers, train staff in effective communication and school marketing techniques, secure new business partners and lead community outreach efforts.
We use a wide range of tools to stay in touch. These include our district website, social media outlets and GCSTV, which airs 24-7 on cable, online @gcsnc.com and via YouTube. And, if an incident or crisis occurs at a school or at the district level, our team is there to ensure timely and accurate information goes out to all affected. Our goal is to have you hear it from us, first, whenever possible.
Most importantly, we are storytellers. We have the honor and privilege of telling the stories of more than 72,000 students and 10,000 employees who do great work every day in our community’s public schools. We tell stories about student successes and about dedicated teachers. We share stories about cafeteria workers who greet kids with a smile and nutritious food for breakfast and lunch, and volunteers who work patiently with hesitant readers until the students’ confidence and understanding blossoms.
We tell stories in so many ways – on our website, via email, text and voicemail broadcasting, through our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube channels, and through our weekly employee newsletter, My GCS News. We use photos, video, images and sound to bring stories to life, and our partnerships with local media allows us to share our stories with people beyond Guilford County.

Our students and our schools thrive when we all work together.
