In 2010, we had the opportunity to open a new school and to build a new school community. The Meredith Leigh Haynes-Bennie Lee Education Center serves approximately 130 students from ages 3 to 22, all of whom have special needs and most of whom are considered medically fragile with significant disabilities. While we use the Extensions of the Common Core Standards, each of our students also has an individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Our school is named after two incredible people - One a student and the other a teacher. Meredith Leigh Haynes was a very special young lady from this community. She, along with her family, touched the hearts of many people in our community. Bennie Lee Inman was a respected educator for many years. She was a real pioneer in educating young people with disabilities.
We have a beautiful building - a wonderful place for our students to learn. However, the school truly comes alive when it is filled with our wonderful students and staff. At Haynes-Inman, we want to be the kind of school where everyone feels welcome, included and important.
