Hello and welcome to 4th grade!
I know that this year is going to be an amazing and wonderful year and I am so excited to be your child's teacher! This is my 22nd year teaching; I taught 6th grade for 14 years, and I also taught 5th and then 3rd grade before asking to move to 4th grade. I feel that teaching the grades above and below 4th grade has helped me gain wonderful insight to be able to help you and your child as much as I can by knowing where your child has come from and will also be heading academically, socially, and emotionally.
I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Liberal Studies from Longwood University in Farmville, VA. Loving Longwood, I went back a few years later for my Master's of Education degree in Literacy and Culture. Though this program and required testing, I am a certified reading/curriculum specialist. While at the middle school level, I taught an advanced integrated curriculum and worked with the academically gifted class. I enjoyed this challenge, and pursued further education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington to gain my academically gifted teaching certification.
After 14 years of teaching, my family moved to Summerfield and then built a house in nearby Browns Summit and we love being part of theose communities. Our family consists of myself, Mr. Cooper (he's originally from WV,) Ashley, Erin, Hera, and Daisy. Ashley attended Concord University in West Virginia and is currently a 2L at Elon Law in downtown Greensboro. Erin is an Elementary Education major and is in her 2nd year at the University of North Carolina - Greensboro. If you happen to see us out in the community (Food Lion, Lowes, football games, etc.,) feel free to come say hello and I will introduce them to you. Hera and Daisy will sometimes make guest appearances if we are doing remote learning for the day and Daisy even got to attend our class picnic one year! They are both mischievous and I am sure your kids will hear plenty of stories about both our human children, and our fur babies throughout the year.
Summerfield Elementary is a wonderful place to be and I am so glad to be here working with an outstanding staff, awesome students, and amazing parents. If you ever have a question, please just reach out!
