The "Scoop" on Mrs. Smith

I began my teaching career in 1991 and this is my 8th year at Southwest.  I spent one year teaching 4th grade and the rest in 5th.  Please don't share my secret, but 5th is my favorite!  I graduated from Salem College in Winston-Salem and began teaching soon after.  I spent the first few years teaching in Winston-Salem and then moved to High Point where I taught at Westchester Country Day School (my alma mater!) for five years.  I then decided to move back to public schools and taught in Lexington at, believe or not, Southwest Elementary!  This also happened to be my elementary school when I grew up in Lexington.  I met my husband during this time and he actually proposed to me in front of my second grade class!  After our first child was born I decided to take some time away from teaching and be a full time mommy.  I stayed home and after our second child came along I decided to get back into the classroom.  I began tutoring at SWE a few days a week which led me to where I am today and I couldn't be happier! I love what I do and I am excited about our year together!
