A Little Bit about Me:
I was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on April 21, 1972 but moved to Greensboro in 1976, attending Sedgefield Elementary, Peeler Elementary, Frazier Elementary, Allen Junior High, and James B. Dudley Senior High School.
While in high school, I was very active in the Greensboro Youth Council (GYC), serving as the GYC Chairman my senior year. I graduated from Dudley in 1990 and received the N.C. Teaching Fellows Program scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
From 1996 to 2008, I taught eighth-grade language arts at Southwest Guilford Middle School.I have taught at High Point Central High School since 2008. During my time here, I have taught all four levels of English, AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition, creative writing, speech and debate, and yearbook. I served as an adviser for our yearbooks that came out in May from 2009-2019. I also used to serve as our school's AP Coordinator.
I have a niece named Zoe and a nephew named Connor. My two Yorkies are named Styler and Sterlyn; before them, I had three Yorkies named Spencer, Sidney, and Sheru.
Through People to People's Student Ambassador Program, I have traveled with students to Australia (4 times), New Zealand (2), England, France, Spain, Italy, California (San Francisco and Yosemite), and Japan.I love organizing dinner-and-a-play get-togethers, and my favorite theatres are the Open Space Cafe Theatre (no longer with us), Triad Stage (also no longer with us), and Theatre Alliance. Favorite plays and musicals include "Fences," "Blood Brothers," "Carmen," "Hair," "Beautiful Star," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Waitress," and "Hamilton."
Favorite authors include Pat Conroy, Zora Neale Hurston, Toni Morrison, Stephen King, George Orwell, Alice Walker, Edgar Allan Poe, and John Irving. I am also a big fan of Prince and Purple Rain; in 2016, Prince died on my birthday-some day, I hope to visit his home and recording studio, which he named Paisley Park.
