  • October 2, 2022 Weekly STAR Family Updates

Good afternoon Morehead STAR Families! This is Mrs. Traumuller, the Proud Morehead Principal, with your weekly updates and reminders.

I hope that this message finds you well and that you are safe after our storm rolled through on Friday. Although we did not have 100% participation in our remote learning - we saw many of our STARS working through to get online to work with their teacher and friends. Thank you to the grown up STARS for making this happen as we were all caught off guard with a late call to virtual learning.

Monday will start ARTS Academy for those 3-5 students. We are working with GCS transportation to do our Bus Evacuation Drill with all students. This will be this Tuesday during the day. We will also host our monthly School Improvement Team Meeting virtually on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting link is on our website for all that want to join. Wednesday, October 5th, is a Teacher Workday, for all of GCS. This is a non-student day, so please make sure to plan ahead. We will finish the week off at school for Thursday and Friday.

Please see the video on Class Dojo of the jackets that have been left at school. As you know, Morehead has limited space and these items if left unclaimed will go to Good Will. If you view the video and see a jacket that is yours, please let us know so that we can give it to your STAR student.

Have you registered for the GO FAR event? IT is November 12th, but the early bird registration is over after October 8th. If you would like to participate in this community event, please register and join the Morehead team on the GO FAR website at gofarclub.org. Please reach out to Mr. Kight with any questions.

    Message from Morehead PTA:
Wednesday, October 5th PTA Planning Meeting at 6 PM link is here or posted on Morehead Website.
Thursday, October 6th PTA’s International Night at Westover Church Gym from 5:30-7:00. Come to see many countries' exhibits displayed and some countries featuring food samples!
Friday, October 7th is the deadline for Stars on the Run community sponsorship campaign. Please share the star sponsor form linked here or online with families, businesses and community members who may be interested in sponsoring our PTA! Sponsorship funding will allow the PTA to purchase a digital school sign and maintain all the PTA budget line items.

That is all that I have for you today. We look forward to seeing all of our STARS tomorrow morning, beginning at 7:20 am. Have a great evening.

  • September 25, 2022 Weekly STAR Family Updates
Good afternoon STAR Families. This is Mrs. Traumuller, the Morehead Principal, with the updates and reminders for the week ahead!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Last week was so busy and filled with fun! We could not have done this without the support of our Morehead Community! We conquered mandatory safety drills, Skate Night joined with Curriculum Night, our first Out of the Garden Food pantry give away, AND our first Fun Friday Vote which ended with CRAZY HAIR!

This week our students will take an assessment independently with both reading and math. The only exceptions will be that kindergarten through third grade students will not take the reading as they have already taken the statewide DIBELS testing. This test gives us the various levels of all students and helps us better target where to support and push each student individually. This is not a long assessment, but one that requires student devices and concentration.

Kindergarten families - September 29th is the deadline for the mandatory forms to be submitted. As a reminder, we must have on file your NC Health Assessment as well as your vaccination records prior to the deadline given to us by the state.

Have you registered for the fall GO FAR Race yet? The Fall GO FAR Race will be held in High Point on November 12th at 9:00 AM. Registration for the race has already begun with the early bird registration fee being a total of $25 per racer. The early bird registration ends, and the price will increase after October 8th. If you would like to participate in this community event, please register and join the Morehead team on the GO FAR website at gofarclub.org. Please reach out to Mr. Kight with any questions.

    Message from Morehead PTA:
Thank you to 11 Stars on the Run Sponsors who have helped us reach 5k in sponsorship funding! We are off to a great start. However, to ensure we can purchase the new digital sign and maintain all the PTA budget line items, we still need to raise 6k. The deadline is October 7th! Please share the star sponsor form with families, businesses and community members who may be interested in sponsoring our PTA!

PTA International Night is October 6th at Westover Church gym. We are excited to note that we have Sudan, Algeria, Morocco, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Ghana, Mexico, El Salvador, France, Italy, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Venezuela, and Argentina planning on hosting a table and sharing food samples! And big shout out to Sudan and Morocco who have several families coming together to host! Still time to sign up with the Jotform link or find it located on the Morehead website.

That is all that I have for you today. We look forward to seeing all of our STARS tomorrow morning, beginning at 7:20 am. Have a great evening.

  • Morehead STARS Mid Week Updates

Good afternoon Morehead STAR parents. This is Mrs. Traumuller, the Morehead Principal, with midweek updates and reminders.

We wanted to partner with you in the messaging that our mandated opening of schools safety drills are completed. On Tuesday, we completed our tornado drill and today we conducted our lock down drill. Our administration team walked our STAR students through the expectations and the reasons for both drills so that our students would understand the importance and a very basic reasoning. It is NEVER our wish to give too many details that may or may not scare students. We are working with the you as the guardians to ensure that all students know that the while the mandated drills are serious, that our students feel comfortable and safe in our beautiful school. Thank you for your partnership with this very heavy topic of school safety.

Please remember that tonight is our PTA Skate Night at Skate Land USA West on Stage Coach Road. All information about the event is on our website and has been sent out through ClassDojo. The event is coupled with a Curriculum Handout as well as Title One display of information with staff ready to answer any questions. All parents who do not wish to skate are welcomed in for free while anyone who wants to skate can enjoy the time for $6.00 each rental. The event will be held during a window from 6:30 - 8:30, so if you can join us, please do and we look forward to "skating through" the curriculum with you. If you cannot make the event tonight - no worries, we will send all of the information home with your child and upload on our website.

Today, during our dismissal, we are proud to offer our monthly partnership with Out of the Garden food for any families that would like to benefit from the give away. The only place that we can serve the food from is the car line and it can add up 5 - 10 minutes extra time but we are able to provide food for over 100 families. We will be set up to move and to help direct traffic to ease the flow. Thank you in advance for your patience.

Tomorrow we are excited as the student body has voted on their first FUN Friday theme. Tomorrow the winning choice with over 172 votes was CRAZY HAIR DAY! So prepare some fun and crazy hair themes for our first FUN FRIDAY.

That is all that I have for you. We are looking forward to seeing those that can join us tonight and all of our CRAZY HAIR STARs tomorrow. Have a great day.

This Thursday, September 22nd, our PTA is hosting Skate Night at Skateland USA West. In effort to combine nights and events in our very busy world, Our staff will be providing information on Curriclulum and Title One Funding there as to avoid having two afterschool events on one week. If you cannot make it, you will have the information sent home with you and of course available on our website beginning Friday, September 23rd.

This week we will walk our students through very important safety drills. We will review and walk through together our tornado drill as well as our "lock down" drill. We alert all families of these events so that we can partner together to help our STARS understand the importance. We will walk them through the motions and make it as relaxed as possible with our student body.

    Message from Morehead PTA:

Last, but certainly not least, I thank you personally for your help in the car line. Thank you for knowing that early dismissal should only be done with appointments and is over at 2:15. If you arrive later than 2:15, you will be asked to wait in the car line for you STAR student.

That is all that I have for you today. We look forward to seeing all of our STARS tomorrow morning, beginning at 7:20 am. Have a great evening.

  • Good afternoon Morehead Parents. This is Mrs. Traumuller, the Morehead Principal, with a few updates for the week.

Next week, our third grade students will take the Beginning of Grade Test. Letters went home yesterday to inform you of the details. This test is specific to only our third grade students and will be held on September 13th. Attendance and on time arrival is crucial for student success on this assessment. We appreciate your support in making this day happen for our third grade students.

Today, we had our first fire drill. The students did an excellent job staying quiet and paying attention to all directions during this time.

For our third through fifth grade students, the Arts Academy registrations are due on Friday, September 16th. All of the information is online.

School pictures update: You might have received another school’s picture order form in error. Please ensure that you have the correct form for our upcoming picture day! If the school name on the top of your form is not Morehead Elementary, please dispose of it and use the new one attached or order online using the code at the bottom of the form: FM404652 The new flyer is also posted on our website and as a reminder - Fall pictures are Monday, September 12th.

  • September 4, 2022 Weekly STAR Family Updates

Good afternoon STAR Families. This is Mrs. Traumuller, the Morehead Principal, with the updates and reminders for the week ahead!

We have made it together through week#1 of school! It was a great start to a new year and we could not have done it without you. Thank you for your partnership with making the first week as smooth as possible.

Our One Card wearing has been extremely good- please help your Morehead STAR remember to wear it daily before leaving the house. This helps our arrival and dismissal process go smooth as well as our breakfast and lunch. If your child is new to Morehead or a kindergarten student, they have not received their cards yet. We are hoping within the next week or two that all students will have them to wear daily.

Dismissal will begin at 2:30 pm. In the event that you have an after school appointment that may require early dismissal, please plan to pick your child up prior to 2:15 pm, which is when we will stop early dismissal and focus on whole school dismissal. Early dismissal should only be in the event of an appointment or an emergency situation as teaching and learning continues through the end of our day. If your you have not had a chance to meet your child's teacher yet, please send a note with your student so that we can ensure that they get home the correct way. For all bus riding families, we highly encourage you to get the "Here Comes the Bus App" found on the transportation website.

  • Good afternoon Kindergarten Parents! This is Mrs. Traumuller, the Morehead Principal, with a reminder about required kindergarten documents. If you are receiving this call, we are missing one or both of the following: Shot records and/or the NC Health Assessments. North Carolina state law requires these documents for every kindergarten student by the 30th day of the school year which is 09/29. We are asking that you provide us the records as soon as possible as we are required to turn in daily updates. A letter has gone home with your STAR student asking for proof of an appointment by September 12th so that we can note your records. Unfortunately, if we do not have these records by the deadline of September 29, your child will be excluded from school, meaning that they will have to stay home until the records are submitted.

Please let us know if we can do anything to support you with getting the records submitted prior to the deadline.

  • What a successful start to a great school year! Thank you for all of your patience with arrival and dismissal. With a student population over 500, I am so grateful for your support. A few reminders for continued success -
    * Please send all children to school wearing their One Cards. They have to have them scanned to enter the bus and building, get breakfast, lunch, as well as library check outs. This also serves as an identifier for all Morehead students. If this card is lost, there will be a replacement fee this year.
*Please send a note to the classroom teacher if you plan on changing the way your child goes home.
    * All visitors to our building need to sign in to the front office. This includes during arrival as only staff and students are supposed to be in the building during school hours.
    * If your child is a car rider, we need your help. Please have your car rider tag in the front window of your car until your child gets in the vehicle.
    * In the car rider line, upon exit, please notice the signs that the county has posted asking all traffic to turn right when leaving the campus during arrival and dismissal. This is a safety measure and one that is critical to the flow of traffic.
    * Starting tomorrow morning, the car line will stop at 7:45 which is the GCS scheduled start time. I highly encourage you to start early as we open our school doors at 7:20am.

Thank you again for your help and assistance with ensuring that we operate in a timely manner as well as safe as possible. We enjoy working together as a team to make our school remain a GREAT place to grow and learn together.

  • August 28, 2022 Weekly STAR Family Updates

Good afternoon STAR Families. This is Mrs. Traumuller, the Morehead Principal, with the updates and reminders for the weeks ahead!

We would like to start this week's message off with a HUGE THANK YOU! Open House was a huge success and we are very excited to greet all of our STAR students tomorrow morning bright and early, beginning at 7:20 am and no later than 7:45 am. As you saw at Open House, parking is very difficult when all staff is in the building as well as parents trying to park and get out during the arrival process. We thank you for using the bus or car line to drop all students off beginning on our first day. We will have all of our staff out and ready to assist with all students getting to the correct classroom. We have done this the past two years and have found it helps our students ease into their new spaces without any anxiety or tears. We know that this is a big day and assure you that our STARS will start the new school year off GREAT! This will certainly help our students feel like a normal school day and get off to a great start in the 2022 - 2023 school year.

All students, with the exception of our Kindergarten STARS, will come home with a One Card tomorrow morning. It will be on a lanyard and will be used daily for gaining entry to the school, getting breakfast and lunch, as well as checking books out of the library. PLEASE help us by ensuring that they are on your student before getting to school. We will keep you informed upon when our Kindergarten cards will arrive.

All first day papers, if not picked up at Open House, will be sent home on Monday. Please ensure that you join your child's Class Dojo account as well as enroll in Power School for Parents. Another important paper is a one page document that serves as our Parent and Family Handbook. The final form that we are asking all families to fill out is a shortened version of the state lunch form. Our school maintains its free lunch for all program partially based upon the information gathered. Please sign and return or sign up as soon as possible.

School safety continues to be a national and worldwide issue today. One way that we are trying to ensure that our school remains the safest for our students and staff is that all students enter the building in two different entrances. Each child will have to scan in by the kindergarten hallway if they are car riders or if they walk to school from the behind the school on Grendle Street. If your student is a bus rider or walk from the front of the school (Tower Road), the entrance with scan station will be in the front of the school by the bus loop. If you are a returning student, this is nothing different than what we have done last year, but wanted to remind all of arrival procedures.

    Message from Morehead PTA includes

  • August 21, 2022 Weekly STAR Family Updates

Good afternoon STAR Families. This is Mrs. Traumuller, the Morehead Principal, with the updates and reminders for the weeks ahead! All back to school information including bell times, supply lists, lunch and transportation sign up links and information, as well as Open House information is found on our website.

We are pleased to announce that in a time of teacher shortages nation wide, Morehead is fully staffed! You should be hearing from your child's teacher no later than end of day on tomorrow, Monday, August 22nd.

Open House will be held on Wednesday, August 24th. The information about times for your family is on our school website. Please know that support with school supplies will be available as well as transportation staff with updated listings of times and locations of bus routes, and our fabulous PTA will be there to help your family sign up so that you can immediately become part of a group designed to make Morehead an even better school. Please remember to use this time as your time to take your classroom pictures for the beginning of the year as well as to bring your classroom supplies. We will have picture boards set up in the school building for great family fun and memories. Masks are also optional for this night, and we ask that the only pets in the building are service animals.

Lastly, school safety is a national and worldwide issue today. We ask that only parents or students who need assistance from the front office enter in the main hallway. If you are a returning student, this is nothing different than what we have done last year, but wanted to remind all of arrival procedures. Arrival time will begin at 7:20 am and stop at 7:45 am. If you are late to school, you will need to park and walk your student into the front office so that we can check them in. Dismissal time begins at 2:30 and will end by 2:50. Please note that we do not have staff to watch students after 2:50, so that you will need to be on time daily. All early check outs will stop at 2:15 pm as we will be busy as a school preparing for dismissal.

That is all that I have for you today. We are all excited about having everyone in the building for Open House and cannot wait to welcome you! Have a great evening.

My last announcement is unfortunately not a happy piece of information. Our STAR family has lost one of its members. Our STAR, Anna Grisolia, passed away this past Friday. While at Morehead, she served as an Instructional Assistant and most recently, our school Treasurer. I know that many of you had the opportunity to meet and work with Anna. She was truly an amazing spirit and our school family will certainly miss her as we enter the new school year.

Good afternoon STAR Families. This is Mrs. Traumuller, the Morehead Principal, with the updates and reminders for the weeks ahead! All of the items listed below are linked in the message, but also on our website main picture slide show for easy access.

As we begin to plan for next year, we wanted you to know a few updates to help you plan.

First up, we need your help. If you know of any people that have not yet registered for school this upcoming year, please encourage them to do so immediately. Transportation is only available for the first few days to those that register on time for planning purposes. You can visit our website OR click here for the direct link.

Please take time to visit our school website and social media outlets of Facebook and Twitter. We try our best to keep all important information updated and easily accessible to all of our community. On our website, you will see tabs at the top that direct you to various sources of information. If you need afterschool care at our school, you can access the updated ACES registration form and get access to our Coordinator. The slide show picture is where we house pictures of school events, but also the most timely updates so that our parents have easy access. If you happen to miss the Connect Ed Messages, the section below will house all messages for you to review at your leisure. Finally, at the bottom of the page, you will see announcements as well as "quick links". The quick links houses items from the district as well as items that we want to stay readily available for you and your family. For example, the latest NC Public School Health Tool Kit is linked there as well as a Bullying Reporting Form. All of these items on our website will help us stay connected throughout the upcoming school year.

GCS has released the supply lists for elementary schools. Please remember that every student will have a device, so personal headphones will be important to daily work. They are listed on the "wish list" section. Use the link here for the supply lists.

The 2022 - 2023 school year calendar is out and is available on the GCS website or by clicking here to get the digital copy. • July 17, 2022 Bi-Weekly STAR Summer Updates

Good afternoon STAR Families. This is Mrs. Traumuller, the Morehead Principal, with the updates and reminders for the weeks ahead! All of the items listed below are linked in the message, but also on our website main picture slide show for easy access.

GCS Transportation has extended the deadline to July 19th, for families that need to have transportation next year. Families that need to sign up are as follows:
    *They are new to GCS
*Their family has moved or there has been a change in address for the student
