Pre-K Screening and Placement Process

  • Parents/guardians who complete the NC Pre-K Application, and select GCS sites as one or more of their choices, will receive an email with instructions and the link to complete the Guilford County Schools sites required ASQ questionnaire screener. Keep in mind, you will receive the ASQ email in up to 8 weeks after you apply, once your application has been fully processed by the Guilford Partnership for Children and the Guilford County Schools Pre-k office. You may experience a longer wait time if your application is initially turned in incomplete/missing required documents.

You may check your application status 6-8 weeks after applying if you have not received the ASQ questionnaire, however the ASQ email may not be requested, unless your child's application has been fully processed by GCS.

With the ASQ questionnaire, your child will be evaluated for school readiness using the online developmental assessment. The assessment is a series of activities which create a picture of your child's language, cognitive, and motor development based on age. You may supply additional information which will be helpful in considering placement of your child.

To determine if your child is eligible for the GCS Pre-K program for the upcoming school year, parents/guardians must complete the Pre-K screening process with your child.

Placement priority is based on demonstrated need to develop school readiness foundational skills.   Parents/guardians of children screened will receive an email during the summer notifying you of the status of your child's application.
