Hello! I am Michael Courts and I teach in the Social Studies Department at Grimsley High School where I also serve as Department Chair. 2018-19 will be my 17th year at Grimsley and 27th overall. I have also taught within the IB Diploma program for the past 23 years where I have served as a Coordinator, overseen CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) and advised over 200 Extended Essays. I have taught the following courses in the IB Curriculum: Theory of Knowledge(20 years), Math SL(5 years), Philosophy SL and HL(10 years) and History of Americas SL/HL(15 years) and Europe SL/HL(3 years). I am also a certified math teacher and have taught Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus. I have also had the privilege of teaching World History, American History 2, AP European History and Earth Science. I live in Sunset Hills and have three children: Will, GHS Class of '18 and currently attending USC; Katherine, Class of '20 and a current IB Diploma candidate; and, Margot, whom is in 2nd grade at Lindley Elementary. I am the Junior Class/Junior Marshal advisor, serve as the advisor for Grimsley's Academic teams and am the announcer for Grimsley Football and Basketball games (Go Whirlies!). I also help organize Senior Awards.
For the 2018-19 school year I will be teaching IB History of the Americas(HOTA), AP US History and IB 20th Century World History.
