Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Jo Anne S. Malloy

Welcome Golden Eagle Families  to the 2022-2023 school year.  Teaching at Smith High School for twenty three years has been the highlight of my career.  My professional career pathway started when I was a junior in high school.  I always knew that I wanted to work with children.  However, I didn't know what age group. Plus, my mother and grandmother were both teachers.  I've had the unique opportunity of working with all age groups.  I now have the wonderful opportunity of working with high school and college students.

I've taught Early Childhood Education and Child Development while at Smith.  The classes are similar but also have their differences.  ECE focuses on infants to twelve years of age. Students taking ECE have a desire to teach or work with children in some capacity. Child Development is an introductory course on how children develop and grow.

I'm the proud mother of two children, a girl and a boy.  I'm MiMi to my 3 grandchildren.  Justice is 13 and Triniti is 9, these two are siblings. Steven Jr. is 15 mos. old.

I wouldn't be where I am now, without the outstanding education that I received at North Carolina Agricultural & State University. I also earned my masters' degree from the University of Phoenix.

I'm looking forward to building a classroom environment that will allow each of you to prepare for your future.  My goal is for each of my students to leave my class with an idea of their career goals.  Planning for your future will contribute to your success.  We will all strive for Excellence with No Excuses at Ben L. Smith.
