Battle of the Books is a state-wide competition held every spring at the middle school level. A team consists of twelve students who read the twenty-seven books selected by the state Battle of the Books committee, and then compete in a quiz-bowl-style tournament to test their knowledge of these books. Only six team members are allowed to play during each round of the competition. A round consists of 12 questions, six questions for each team.
Battle titles and authors must be learned, drilled and memorized for the competition.
Students who are interested in trying out for the 2019-20 NWMS Battle of the Books team should contact Ms. Stringer in the Media Center in the fall. Come into the Media Center and introduce yourself. Ms. Stringer will show you where you can locate the Battle Bookshelf and share additional information with you at that time. Members of the team meet every Monday morning from 8:20 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. in the Media Center.
Afterschool practices for the 2020 competition will begin the Monday AFTER our fall book fair ends (mid-October). Practice will end on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. Team coaches are Ms. Stringer and Mr. Stephens.
