You will need to contact Ms. Christmann (christk@gcsnc.com)  to drop an online course. If you stay in the class after the scheduled drop day, you will receive a W/F (withdrawal/fail) that permanently stays on your transcript and calculates into your GPA as an F.

NGHS does not offer additional academic support such as tutoring or lab support for NCVPS/ALVS courses. Any software issues are to be brought to Kayla Christmann christk@gcsnc.com. Loss of technical access at home is not a reason to drop a course without failing.

A student found cheating will be given a zero on the test/assignment. A second cheating event will result W/F and no other online courses may be taken by the student. Student’s online course activity is subject to online monitoring by NGHS staff and monitoring software. Students can be called in to take test(s) and/or do assignments at any time to assure course integrity. Students failing an online course for any reason will need administrative approval to take any other online courses. There is no ‘credit recovery’ for a failed online course.

The student and parent/guardian will not receive notice of student performance in an online course from NGHS staff. ALVS will send weekly, automated grade reports to parents and NCVPS teachers will email grade reports directly to parents.

  • Apex Virtual Learning School

    General Studies

    • Core
Core courses meet the needs of a range of students as they endeavor to master rigorous content and earn credits toward graduation. While core courses assume readiness for grade-level academic challenges, they also include targeted scaffolding for students who benefit from additional learning support. Each semester course offers 70–90 hours (~5 hours a week) of interactive direct instruction and guided practice.  Courses are structured around integrated formative, summative, and diagnostic assessment.
    • Honors
Honors courses meet the needs of motivated students seeking to accelerate their learning and deepen conceptual understanding. With many opportunities to apply, extend, and synthesize knowledge, honors courses are ideally suited to prepare students for the rigors of Advanced Placement (AP)* courses. Each semester course offers 90–120 hours (~7 hours a week) of interactive direct instruction, guided practice, and robust enrichment.  Courses are structured around integrated formative, summative, and diagnostic assessment.

    Advanced Placement

Authorized by the College Board, Apex Learning AP* courses meet higher-education expectations of college-level courses and prepare students to demonstrate achievement through success on the AP exams. Courses target highly motivated students who are reading at grade level or above and who have a track record of success in high school course work. Each yearlong course offers approximately 240-300 hours (~8 hours a week) of direct instruction and are structured around integrated formative, summative, and diagnostic assessment.

Understand your workload! Our classes are real classes, with real work, and real grades. Our courses are not designed to enrich other courses, and students can't audit or sit in on courses. All courses are for credit.

Fall and spring block courses: 90 minutes of work each day (depending on the course), Monday through Friday.

Yearlong courses: 50-60 minutes of work each day (depending on the course), Monday through Friday.

Weekends: That’s right! Just like in traditional school, you may have homework over the weekend. We don’t have any due dates on weekends, but you may need to study for a test, read your novel, or work on a project.
