Greetings
Welcome to my webpage! My name is Tammi Conahan and I teach Science for 7th grade here at Northern Guilford Middle School. This 2019-2020 school year is my 19th year as an educator with Guilford County Schools.
A Little About Me
I was born and raised in Hollywood, FL which is located between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Directly upon graduating from high school in 1986, I joined the United States Coast Guard. I am very proud to have served through Desert Storm and was honorably discharged in 1991. I attended college in Boca Raton, FL at Florida Atlantic University where I graduated with a major in education, a minor in history, and ESOL certification. My husband and I moved to Greensboro, NC after we wed in 2000. We have been blessed with two amazing children.
My Family
When I am not teaching, I stay very busy with my family. My husband Paul is an Orthoptist who has worked with Dr. William O. Young, a Pediatric Ophthalmologist. for the past 19 years. Our 15-year-old daughter "Anna" is now a 10th grader and cheerleader at Northern High. We also have a 12-year-old son "Tommy" who is in the 6th grade this year here at Northern Middle. He has been playing golf for 5 years now. Last but not least, my family wouldn't be complete without our precious rescue dog "Dee Dee" AKA "Bougie". She is approximately a 2-year-old mutt and is Tommy's little shadow. Dee Dee has been a blessing to each member of my family. She is currently training to be a therapy dog. I stay very busy and I wouldn’t have it any other way. In addition, I also try to sneak in two of my favorite things, manicures and movies.
As an Educator
My instructional style is to relate academic content to what is relevant to my current learners. I enjoy including movement, music, games, technology, cooperative learning, and hands-on activities. I strive to create innovative and creative lessons that also include best teaching practices for diverse classroom settings. I believe in educating the whole child and using my nurturing side to really get to know my students. I look for opportunities to include our families and community as I firmly believe that “it takes a village” to raise and educate children. I am honored to be your child’s teacher and I thank you for sharing your child with me this year. I look forward to developing relationships within this great Northern community both this year and for many years to come. I am blessed to live and work in this great community.
