Core and Construction Sustainability, Electrical Trades, HVAC Technology
Welcome to Core and Construction Sustainability and Carpentry class. My name is Mr. Dixon. Although this is my first year at Andrews, I have been with Guildford County Schools for 15 years. During those 15 years, I have taught HVAC, Electrical Trades, Core and Construction Sustainability, and Carpentry. Below are the classes I teach this year:
This class covers orientation to the trade, building materials, fastners, adhesives, hand and power tools, construction drawings, floor and wall systems, ceiling joists and roof framing, doors and windows, and basic stair layouts.
*****Core and Construction*****
This is a prerequisite class for the construction cluster, which include the class mentioned above. This class covers basic safety, construction math, hand and power tools, construction drawings, communication skills, employability skills, and material handling. The class will also look into going green. Projects in the class include building a foot stool and birdhouse, along with other small crafts.
These courses include NCCER certification, which stands for National Center for Construction Education and Research, and will require students to be in the lab. Lab projects will include anything from foot stools, to sheds.
