Ms. Travis' First Grade Class

  •

Hello and Welcome to First Grade!

My name is Ms. Travis, and I am originally from Louisville, Kentucky and went to the University of Kentucky in Lexington. My Master's Degree in Elementary Education is from the University of Alabama and my Education Specialist Degree in Reading is from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. I have two sisters and two brothers, 8 nieces and nephews, and 8 great-nieces and nephews! We live in many different places in the USA which makes it difficult to get together often. We do keep in touch by phone, email, and texts. I enjoy many crafts such as knitting, sewing, and making jewelry. I also have a small flower garden which allows me to have fresh flowers in the spring and summer.

This will be my sixth year teaching first grade at Sedgefield, 39 years total in education. I am looking forward to working with your child this year in first grade. For 17 years, I taught Kinder, 1st. and 2nd grades at The Columbus School in Medellin, Colombia. I traveled within Colombia and to many countries in South America during my time there. I am privileged to be able to communicate in Spanish with the parents and families of students who are originally from Spanish speaking countries.

First graders are so creative and excited about learning! They challenge and motivate me to be a teacher who makes a difference in their lives. I know remote learning has had its challenges and we are all doing what we can to ensure the students are receiving instruction and assignments that help them keep up with the first-grade curriculum. As I see assignments submitted, I know students have received instructions and are learning. When I see and/or hear students who can come to a live meeting or lesson, it warms my heart. I miss teaching and getting to know my students in person. We will soon be back in the classroom. The days will be a bit different from what we are used to, wearing masks all day and staying apart, but we will be together learning and not watching a computer screen.

Feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns.
