  • May 21, 2024 – The Guilford County Board of Education’s Policy Committee reported that the following policy revisions are available for public input:

    • The proposed revision of Policy 2127, Board Member Technology Use, is recommended by the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) and legal counsel to respond to the United States Supreme Court ruling in Lindke v. Freed (601 US 2024). These revisions clarify that the Board does not authorize individual Board members to speak on behalf of the Board via private social media accounts.
    •  NCSBA recommends that Policy 3420, Student Promotion and Accountability, be revised to incorporate opportunities for students to earn course credit while studying abroad.
    • Proposed revisions to Policy 3460, Graduation Requirements, incorporate the requirements of new state statutes. State law now requires all school districts to follow the North Carolina unit requirements for the high school diploma and does not allow additional requirements. State law also now requires that families be informed about the possibility of early graduation.
    •  NCSBA recommends revising Policy 4270/6145, Concussion Awareness and Safety, to reflect updated legal and North Carolina State Board of Education requirements related to concussion education and procedures.
