The AJE Library Media Center is dedicated to promoting the love of reading within students. Reading is the fundamental foundation underlying all policies and procedures in the LMC. Please let our Library Media Specialist know if there is anything we can do to assist you with inspiring a love of reading within your student or child.
The Library Media Class
In Library Media Class the students will learn information literacy skills which will prepare them for the challenges faced by the 21st Century learner. Additionally, the students will are given the opportunity to practice these skills within the context of their class curriculum. All students from Kindergarten-5th Grade come to the Library Media Center once a week for a 45-minute session. Each 45-minute session begins with either a story or an activity and ends with a checkout period, at which time the students are encouraged to select books with the help of the Library Media Specialist and other tools such as the Library Catalog.
The Selection/Borrowing Process
Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade are encouraged to select 1 book from a prearranged selection, while older students are allowed to select up to 2 books from the shelves. Any lost or damaged books will accrue a flat rate fee of $6.00. Since recreational reading is seen as such an important aspect of the student's literacy education, parents will be encouraged to come to the Library Media Center and establish accounts to share in the selection and reading experience with their students.
