  • What does the application process include?

    The online application, which will be completed here then an essay question that MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE STUDENT. No application will be considered if the essay is completed by anybody other than the student. Upon request, transcripts or a recent report card will be needed to be provided.

  • When is the application deadline?

    The application deadline will correspond with the district deadline, which is March 3rd. Applications received after this date will be viewed but with no guarantee of admittance. The program is a limited enrollment program and applications must be received before the deadline to be considered. After the deadline, applications will be based on availability.

  • What are the qualifications needed?

    Students must have a 2.8 GPA or better, as well as excellent character and attendance.

  • What kind of courses are involved?

    Graduation requires classes, either regular or Honors; AP classes, Aerospace Technology one, Honors Aerospace technology two and Honors Aviation Manufacturing, Drafting classes at Weaver, if available. Three levels of automotive classes at Andrews. These are career and technical education (CTE) courses.

  • What colleges or programs are affiliated with the Academy?

    GTCC Jamestown (college transfer), GTCC PTI Airport Campus: Aviation Management/Pilot, A&P Mechanics, and Avionics Technology.

    Students attend Universities such as NC State, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, A&T, Elizabeth City and all of the UNC system universities.

  • What kind of college credits can I earn?

    Academy students can graduate from high school with college credits if they start in the early college program in their junior or senior year. Earned college credits are transferred to all UNC universities, such as NC State, UNC, NC A&T (College Transfer Classes) and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (College Transfer and Aviation Classes).

    • Aviation Job Shadowing experience at HAECO
    • Aviation Manufacturing class-Junior or Senior year
    • Earn Credits for FAA and industry certifications/licenses by attending GTCC senior year. 
    • Solidworks (Mechanical engineering) certification
    • Flight simulators
    • MakerBot 3-D printer and wind tunnel to test designs
    • Civil Air Patrol

  • What are the fees to attend the Aviation Academy?

    All college courses and books are free. Students may purchase an optional Aviation Academy merchandise through the website. There are also optional field trips, which include a fee. The supply list will be required for class and shop use. Some items such as safety glasses can be purchased at local stores. School Supply list.

  • Can a tour be completed?

  • What other school activities are offered?

    Andrews High also offers athletics, band, drumline, Rocketry/Drone Club, Young Aviators Club, Robotics, and more than 30 additional clubs and organizations. Many of our students are members of the Civil Air Patrol CAP in Greensboro.

  • Is transportation provided?

    Transportation is usually provided by GCS throughout Guilford county, in most cases.
