    • The High School Service-Learning Program offers Guilford County Schools students an opportunity to lead and learn with strong character as they develop social and emotional learning skills. We offer the following recognitions to students who dedicate time within their high school career to make an impact in the community. For detailed information click below:

      When participating in Service-Learning experiences, we expect parents to:

      •  Help your child select an agency/organization/club that will provide him/her an opportunity to positively impact his/her community through service.

      •  Sign the Service-Learning Approval Form and, if necessary, assist your child in obtaining a signature from the agency/organization/club.

      •  As your child participates in the service, discuss with him/her what he/she is doing; how it is connected with what he/she is learning in school and how it is helping to make positive changes in the community.

      How do students get started? In quality Service-Learning experiences, students participate in the following five components known as IPARD (Investigation, Planning & Preparation, Action, Reflection, and Demonstration).     • Participate in the High School Service-Learning Program!

      The vision of the Character Development Initiative is for the Guilford County Schools students' to lead and learn with strong character. One of the Strategic Plan’s goals is to provide our students with the tools and motivation necessary to positively impact our world. Thus, at Guilford County Schools, we offer the following awards to students who answer this challenge.       Students may print the forms below to begin the process of documenting their service-learning experience. When the Approval Form is complete students should make a copy for their records and submit the form to the counseling office at their school.

      How do you get started?

      Graduating seniors seeking to receive the Service-Learning Diploma or Exemplary Award will complete the High School Senior Application. Students should read the form carefully and turn the completed document into their school counselor. Click here for the application.

      When participating in Service-Learning experiences, we expect students to:

      1.  Find an agency/organization/club that is connected with your interests and  that will provide you an opportunity to make positive changes in your school or community.

      2.  Discuss what you would like to do with your parents and get their approval.

      3.  Complete the Service-Learning Approval Form and discuss your interests with the agency/organization/club.

      4.  Finalize your proposal and have your selected agency/organization/club’s adult representative and your parents sign the Service-Learning Approval Form - giving you permission to conduct your service-learning experience.
