GCS Families, Welcome Back to School!

  • We are so excited to have your child in the classroom for the 2018-19 school year. This page will give you the details you need to get the school year off to a great start.


    When is the first day of school?

    For most students, the first day of school is Monday, August 27, but some schools start as early as August 6. Here is a complete listing with links to school calendars:


    I'm new to the district. How do I enroll my child?

    When is my school's open house?

    GCS has moved to a standardized open house schedule. For 2018, the schedule is:

    What else is new this year?

    Starting this fall, GCS students will be provided with a student ID card, called the GCS One Card. The card can be used for many things, including access to the public library systems in Greensboro and High Point, and to track your child’s school bus location through a free app. Visit to get started. NOTE: This feature will not be available until later in the school year.

    What does my child need for the first day?

    The elementary school supply list can be found here. The list has been standardized this year for all GCS elementary schools. For middle and high schools, please check your school’s website.  

    NOTE: Seventh-graders and kindergarten students will also need to show they’ve received the required vaccinations/immunizations. Click here to learn more.

    Full price for breakfast is $1, and full price for lunch is $2.85. All students who qualify for reduced-priced meals will receive breakfast at no cost and can purchase lunch for $.40.

    How much is the athletics fee?

    Student athletes will need to pay a $45 athletics fee, which covers the entire school year regardless of the number of sports he or she plays. Waivers are available for those who can’t afford the fee, and ALL student-athletes must submit a completed "Athletic Fee Waiver form," even those paying the fee. For more information, click here
