Guilford County Schools has adopted a new math curriculum this year called Eureka Math.
From www.greatminds.org: "The Eureka Math curriculum was created by Great Minds®, a nonprofit that brought together teachers and experts to craft a program based on the world’s most successful math programs. Eureka was built around the core principle that students need to know more than just what works when solving a problem—they need to understand why it works. The curriculum goes beyond facts and formulas, teaching students to think about math conceptually. This helps students become not merely literate, but fluent in mathematics."
I will frequently post and send home "Parent Tip Sheets" that will help you understand the concepts taught in class. If you are trying to help your child with homework and need additional support, you can visit https://greatminds.org/math/parents and create a parent account to access a suite of resources to help you help your child, including videos. There are also great videos created by a teacher named Duane Habecker on Youtube (click here). He has created a video for every lesson in each module. You can find the module/lesson listed on your child's homework.
