Professional Credentials

Master's Degree in School Administration from Queens University of Charlotte

Bachelor's Degree in Secondary English Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro

Currently licensed as a teacher and as an administrator

Experience:

English Teacher, Northern Guilford High School 2016-Present

English 10 Teacher.  Achieved a 5.65 EVAAS score for the 2017-2018 school year.  Mentored new teachers; planned, facilitated, and opened faculty meetings including New to Northern. Participated in a successful PLC.  Served 250 hours as an administrative intern for Principal  Ms. McKenzie. PTSA staff representative.

English Teacher, Western Guilford High School     Aug 2006-June 2014

Taught all levels of high school English.  Led other English teachers in creating a vast variety of relevant and rigorous learning activities, many of which have been used by educators all over the state.  Met and often exceeded scoring expectations of state testing in both student growth and proficiency.  Ranked Level 5 (highest level) Teacher by the state for 5 years in a row.  Served as the school’s Induction Coordinator working with new teachers to help develop their teaching skills.  Sponsored clubs, dances, faculty hospitality events, and Homecoming festivities.  Hosted interns and student teachers 

Awards:

2007 GUILFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS ROOKIE TEACHER OF THE YEAR - Recognized as the most outstanding first-year teacher in the school district.

2012 RECIPIENT OF THE BILL R HOLLIFELD LOYALTY AWARD - Recognized for being a teacher who exceeds expectations, continually putting the needs of the school and its students first.

Advocacy and Involvement in State-Wide Committees and Initiatives:

MEMBER-EDUCATOR EFFECTIVENESS AND COMPENSATION TASKFORCE-RALEIGH, NC

In 2014, Senator Phil Berger appointed me to be a member of the small taskforce assigned to help lawmakers determine how to best improve compensation and evaluation of educators in NC.  This led to a pay raise for all teachers in NC for the 2014-2015 school year.

CURRENT MEMBER-TRANSFORMING PRINCIPAL PREP/NC PRINCIPAL FELLOWS PROGRAM

I was appointed by Senator Phil Berger to work on a commission to help improve the principal training process in NC.

WRITER-NC ENGLISH 9 FINAL EXAM and the ENGLISH 10 EOC

I am currently one of the writers of the state final exams for freshman and sophomore English. 

SUMMERTIME RADIO HOST-HOMEROOM WITH LOU AND LEAH

My friend Lou (a local school principal) and I host a morning radio show on Guilford College Radio 90.0 WQFS where we talk about trending topics in the education world and try to bridge the ga p of understanding between educators and the community.
