Mr. Michael Holton
Welcome to the occasionally exciting and always interesting world of Mathlandia with Mr. Holton! Math is a foreign language for many people, but it is helpful when viewed as a language to be learned rather than forgotten after graduation. The art of learning and doing mathematics is far more valuable than simply learning how to get answers, and I am passionate about helping students embrace learning the rules of math and the critical thinking skills required to solve problems of all kinds. Too many people are afraid of math because they never really understood what they were doing or had someone communicate its' value beyond school. Some of my primary goals in the class room are to demystify math and make talking about it both attainable and enjoyable, all while helping students continue to develop into self-motivated and responsible young adults.
I was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, graduating from Hillside High School. While attending the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, I moved to Greensboro in 2001 and began teaching in Guilford County Schools after graduating in 2003. The first 11 years of my teaching career were spent teaching almost every math course available at the illustrious James B. Dudley High School, including 9 years of experience teaching AP Calculus. This is my 9th year working at the Early Middle College at GTCC-Greensboro, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every single year. It is wonderful to have been in 2 schools where students and adults alike can be known and accepted for both who they are and who they are becoming, which is just as much a part of education as curriculum and instruction.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
