    Overview

The New Light at Risk Intergenerational Outreach Program is a partnership of the Guilford County Schools (GCS) and New Light Missionary Baptist Church and was designed to benefit high school students who have been short-term suspended. Through the program, students receive counseling/encouragement, educational enrichment, anger/conflict resolution and community agency involvement. Instructional education follows the GCS curriculum so that students remain on schedule with their studies. Our goal is to reduce the number of students who have recurring suspensions from school.

Students will be referred to the program by the sending school principal (or designee) with permission from a parent/guardian. Even though the student only attends the program for the duration of their suspension, support services may extend beyond that time frame as needed.
