How to Participate
Students will be referred by their Principal to this program with permission from a parent/guardian. Students complete the intake application with their parent/guardian before attending this program. The inkake application is on NARIOP's website which is linked below. Even though students only attend this program for the duration of their suspension, support services may extend beyond that time frame if needed.

Overview
The New Light at Risk Intergenerational Outreach Program (NARIOP), is a partnership with the Guilford County Schools (GCS) and New Light Missionary Baptist Church. It is designed to benefit students (K-12) who have been suspended short-term. Through this program, students receive academic coaching, mentoring, counseling, character building and leadership development. Instructional education follows the GCS curriculum so that students remain on schedule with their studies. Students can spend up to 10 days in the program and will receive lunch and snacks. Our goal is to reduce the number of students who have recurring suspensions from school.

Operations
The hours of operation: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. The program will adhere to the Guilford County Schools calendar including all GCS teacher work days, inclement weather, holidays and breaks. Each parent/guardian has the responsibility of providing transportation for their child. Parent advocacy is a key component of this program and makes this program unique. Parents receive guidance, referrals, and other directives. The program also provides an advocate to accompany parents to meetings, conferences and hearings. Other parental seminars and activities are also provided.
