Start With Hello raises awareness about social isolation and educates students and the community on how to prevent it. Social isolation is the overwhelming feeling of being left out, lonely or treated like you are invisible. Young people who feel this way may pull away from society, struggle with learning and social development, or choose to hurt themselves or others. Here at GCMC we want to be intentional in promoting connectedness and inclusion, and to identify and help lonely students who are showing signs of social isolation. Start With Hello was implemented as a result of the senseless Sandy Hook mass school shooting that took the lives of many innocent people. Sandy Hook Promise’s mission is to create a culture engaged in preventing shootings, violence, and other harmful acts in schools.
