Hello! My name is Kasheena Burris and this year I will be teaching Biology, Earth and Environmental Science, and Human Anatomy and Physiology this year. I am beyond excited to be back in the classroom! This will be my 2nd year here at The Academy at Smith. Now for a little bit about myself. I am originally from Los Angeles, CA. I moved to North Carolina to attend THE North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (AGGIE PRIDE) in which I earned my Bachelors of Science in Laboratory Animal Science and my Masters of Science in Biology. I later completed my teaching credential program at Greensboro College. I am currently engaged and have two children: Olivia and Jaxon. I love basketball (specifically THE Los Angeles Lakers), sneakers, spending time time with my family, and traveling.

Science is a very hands on subject. The science scholar is expected to take a high level of responsibility for his or her own learning.  Individual effort is very important in the learning process. Success is dependent on the effort put into completing not only class assignments, but also independent work in the form of projects, homework, and preparation for test. The goal this school year (pandemic pending) to complete more interactive labs and projects. We have managed to withstand the tough times of this pandemic and I am confident that we will have another successful school year!
