Welcome to the Academy at Lincoln!
I'm Dr. Christen Blanton. Here at the Academy at Lincoln, I teach:
6th-8th grade Orchestra
6th-8th grade Modern Music Production
7th & 8th grade Global Music Ensemble
I also direct Vespa Strings, Lincoln's Fiddle Club!
I am originally from New York, and I went to college at The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.
I moved to North Carolina in 2006 to get my Masters Degree in Viola Performance at UNCG.
When I moved to North Carolina, I started really focusing on playing, learning, and teaching folk and traditional music on the fiddle. I was inspired by the folk music community to go back to UNCG and earn my PhD in music education. I also studied ethnomusicology, which is the study of how music is used by and shared among different cultures around the world. I love learning about and playing music from many genres, including old-time, bluegrass, Irish and Scottish, jazz and blues, and even my own songs with my band, The Zinc Kings. I also love sharing that music with my students!
