Mr. Perkins
Exceptional-Child Teacher Assistant
2020-2021
My name is Tyler Perkins, I work in the EC-TA department my focus here at Fairview is helping with student’s re-engagement in their educational process. My personal main goal here at Fairview is to always put our student’s education in their reach so they can succeed in every way possible. This includes providing exceptional education students both individually or in groups with physical help and emotional support so they can benefit from the instructional program. I assist and support administrators, teachers’, paraprofessionals, and special education teachers in dealing with students who exhibit behaviors that interfere or impede with their own learning experience or others' learning experiences when students demonstrate problem behaviors that could possibly deal with emotional and behavioral disturbance (ED/BD). Here at Fairview Elementary, I am trained in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training, in order to respond effectively to behavioral difficulties, while balancing the responsibilities of care to the students. I want to help ensure safety for all students and staff. This is why I say to friends and family, I am like my mentor Mr. Keith a Behavioral Support Assistant. I am here to display integrity by demonstrating it through honor, courage and commitment. I want to inspire excellence within the student's minds and to help to encourage teamwork, by all aspects.
Previously, in the educational field, I have experienced and completed over 80 hours of Student observation hours at Southern Guilford, Southeast Middle, and Hairston Middle within a three-year period at North Carolina A&T. At these schools, I have learned how to interact with students, how to make lessons plans, strategies to assess and diagnose literacy skills and provide effective instruction to improve student learning. While also, explored issues confronting urban schools from a sociocultural perspective. Effective culturally responsive strategies and ways to involve parents in the urban school setting. The extended to over 30 credit hours of Education courses at North Carolina Agricultural and Technician State University. When it comes to working in the exceptional children setting, I have completed over 30 hours of observation with 15 credit hours in special education and 1.5 hours interacting with students at Washington Montessori elementary for Field day. Which pertained an overview of the laws, characteristics, multicultural, humanistic, essential trends and instructional accommodations for individuals with low and high incidence disabilities served in diverse educational, and community settings.
I am currently pursuing a Master’s in Teaching as a graduate student of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. I am also a veteran in the United States Marine Corps. I have been to seven different countries and completed over 1000 hours working with the Department of State. I have completed American College of Surgeons STOP THE BLEED Course. Completed Unarmed Active Shooter Response Course. Completed National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Tactical Medicine 101/TACTICAL COMBAT CASUALTY CARE COURSE.
