    SkillsUSA

    • Northern Guilford High School has students who participate in SkillsUSA.  These students meet weekly or bi-weekly to prepare for state and national competitions.  These students compete in a variety of areas, everything from IT to Drafting to Graphic Design.  Our students absolutely love this organization!  If interested reach out to munroet@gcsnc.com.

    Robotics

During last year's season we met for 6+ hours a week after school, as it got closer to our competitions we met an average of 12+ hours a week after school.

Each year our goals are to develop a bot that satisfies the game requirements for the year, build a team of students that felt part of the club, write an engineering notebook that would impress the judges, accomplish outreach any way we could to spread the joy of robotics and programming (Code Ninjas, NGMS, NGES, Girl Scouts), bring in money to keep our team going. We typically had enough funds to purchase a field that we could practice on that season and then host a regional qualifying match in January/February.

We always do our very best to qualify for states' competition and have qualified 7 times over the past 10 years that I have been doing this.  My primary focus as a coach is to give students of like mindedness an opportunity to find a place that they belong. Secondary is to teach them about engineering, programming, team work, logistics, leadership, gracious professionalism, winning with pride and losing with dignity. Tertiary is to have a winning robot.

We have attended competitions hosted by our team at Northern for 5 years, also Cardinal Gibbons in Raleigh, and Southern Guilford HS. We have also been the state competition held at NC A&T and Southern Guilford. We have never attended the Worlds competition as a qualified team.  We did send a student to Worlds in 2019.
