Unit 6 - Politics and Political Parties
-
This unit examines the influence of outside groups, known as linkage institutions, on American democracy. Linkage institutions are often known as the fourth branch of government and provide a way for citizens to connect with their government. Linkage institutions, such as political parties, mass media, and interest groups, actions are protected by the First Amendment and allow the people to shape, check, or voice ideas to our national, state and local government. Evaluate whether these groups add or detract from the proper administration of a democratic republic.
