A little about me 

Time flies when you are having fun!  This is my 18th year as a math or social studies teacher at NWMS. I have elementary experience in both Oklahoma and California.  I took several years off to raise my children before returning to my North Carolina classroom when my youngest entered Kindergarten at Stokesdale.

I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a BS in elementary education, with certifications in language arts and social studies.          GO COWBOYS!!!   

I received my M.Ed in curriculum and instruction with math emphasis from the University of Texas, Arlington. I was part of a two year cohort earning my Advanced Learner certification from High Point University.   

I was invited to help write NC Final assessment questions for the State Department of Education.  I was also invited to be a DOE reviewer for the new 2021 Social Studies Standards.  I am a beginning teacher mentor and evaluate new teachers' portfolios for Pearson Education.

In addition to teaching, I serve as the Social Studies lead for NWMS and help prepare middle schoolers for the NWHS Marching Band Color Guard Program.

I have been married to Jay for over 30 years and we have three amazing children.  Jay is a backyard astronomer and helps Mr. Groce and Mr. McNicholas with the NWMS astronomy club which meets at Oak Ridge Park on Fridays when there are clear skies.

Seth graduated from NWHS and App State with a major in geology.  Seth studied abroad in Italy and was able to observe the K-T boundary.  I use his travels to help explain the geography and history of Italy.   He married Shauna, another NWHS graduate! She is currently at UNC-Greensboro obtaining her doctorate in Nursing to become a Nurse Anesthetist. They live in Raleigh with my granddogs, Boone and Lup. We are looking forward to meeting our first grandchild, due in late October.  Go MOUNTAINEERS!

Grace graduated from NWHS and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, majoring in business administration and marketing at their Belk School of Business.  She studied abroad in Europe and I use her experiences to help teach geography and history.  She is now an assistant buyer for Belks.  GO 49ers!

Faith graduated from NWHS and North Carolina State University with a degree in Fashion and Textiles Management with a concentration in Fashion Development and Product Management. She now lives in Charlotte and works as a Fit Tech for Cato Corporation. Go WOLFPACK!

When I have time, I enjoy reading, learning more about history, playing with our dogs and researching genealogy.
