Katie Martin - Director of Bands

Ms. Martin is in her second year as the Band Director at Kernodle Middle School. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2022, Summa cum laude. While at UK, Ms. Martin studied clarinet with Dr. Scott Wright and conducting with Dr. Michael Hudson and Dr. Shayna Stahl. She was also a member of the UK Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, and the Wildcat Marching Band. Ms. Martin has conducted research in the field of music education and uses her findings to improve practices in her classroom.

​Her professional affiliations include the North Carolina Music Educators Association, NC Bandmasters, Women Band Directors International, the National Band Association, and the National Association for Music Education. Ms. Martin teaches Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Band. In her spare time, Ms. Martin enjoys spending time with her family, baking, reading, swimming, and finding the best local artisan coffee shops.
