  • Thespian: noun 1. A person who participates in the creative process related to theatre productions.

    Miss Kroll (or Ms. K) is a life-long thespian with a passion for education. Ms. Kroll holds a B.A. with Honors in Theatre from Methodist University. After graduating in 2021, Ms. Kroll then went on to Greensboro College to complete their Licensure Only program, which she completed in spring 2023. During their time at Greensboro College, Ms. Kroll completed student teaching at Southeast Guilford High School. As a member of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), Ms. Kroll has also worked with the NC Thespians at their regional and state festivals. 

    Ms. Kroll has worked as an actor, stage manager, scenic designer, and director! She has theatrical credits doing such productions as Scripted by Brenna McBride, Seussical the Musical by Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flahert, King Richard III by William Shakespeare, Almost, Maine by John Cariani, Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, and SpongeBob the Musical by Kyle Jarrow. Ms. Kroll continues to further her professional development through various meetings with EdTA, Guilford County Schools Fine Arts Department, and exploring avenues for performance and theatre technical work. Ms. Kroll also maintains good relationships with past performance groups, such as Methodist University Chorale, Methodist University Theatre Arts Department, Greensboro College Theatre Arts Department, Sweet Tea Shakespeare in Fayetteville, NC, and Temple Theatre in Sanford, NC, and GCS's very own Southeast Guilford High School.

  • Why did you become a theatre teacher?

    I became a teacher because I saw the impact that teachers could have as I was growing up and going through school. I always had a passion for performance and for theatre. When it came time to decide what I wanted to study in college, the choice to combine them was an easy one to make!

  • What is your favorite show?

    My favorite show that I have seen is Wicked, a musical full of amazing songs, technical design, and acting. 

    My favorite show to do was probably Seussical the Musical or Spongebob the Musical. Both shows are so much fun and high energy!

  • What skills will students learn in theatre arts class?

    By taking any art, students are not only expanding their horizons and getting a deeper look into that specific art, they are also learning important, soft skills. These include teamwork, communication, empathy, emotional identification, and planning skills. Students in theatre learn about their body and how it can be used to tell stories and share emotions; they learn about utilizing their voice through articulation and projection activities. When we focus on costumes, we learn about the history of clothing in certain cultures as well as how to design outfits to tell stories. Students who participate in theatre also show a growth of confidence when standing in front of crowds. There is so much to be learned in theatre that it's impossible to list them all!
